I tuned in to the premiere yesterday. I’ve always been impressed by people like Albert Einstein and Niels Bohr who seem to have a coherent and integrated view of science and spirituality whereas so many others insist upon establishing dichotomies. Even the most brilliant minds can look at the cosmos with a sense of wonder.

I agree. I find comfort in these kind of scientists and their work.

Comfort is a wonderful way to describe it.

I noticed during my course of study in grad school that much of the reading and many of the prevailing attitudes made me feel like I was being forcibly removed from my own sense of humanity—whatever that thing is that makes one feel centered, not only in their own identity but in their belonging to something greater. And I think many of the forces in the world are having that effect upon people, whether they're entirely aware of it or not.

But I can always rely upon certain souls to help me reconnect with my sense of humanity and feel realigned with it. Whether or not they're long dead is immaterial. It can be Rumi or C. S. Lewis or Anne Frank or a good friend—that kind of regular check-in is so necessary in order to remain steadfast in a disordered world.
